Scholarship Overview

The International UN Volunteer Program 2026 is an initiative managed by the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) and administered by the UNDP. It connects qualified professionals with United Nations agencies to support peacebuilding, humanitarian action, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Volunteers serve in countries other than their home country, working on assignments ranging from 1 to 48 months. Opportunities are published on a rolling basis via the Unified Volunteering Platform (UVP).

Can Pakistani Students Apply?

Yes, Pakistani nationals are eligible to apply for the International UN Volunteer Program. The program is global in scope and does not restrict applicants based on nationality, provided they meet the specific educational and experience requirements for the volunteer assignment. Applicants must be prepared to serve outside of Pakistan.

Funding and Benefits

International UN Volunteers receive a Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) during their assignment. While specific monetary amounts are not disclosed as they vary by location and role, the VLA is designed to support the volunteer's stay. Additionally, volunteers gain international experience, professional networking opportunities, and the ability to contribute to global peace and sustainable development.

Eligibility Criteria

Effective 1 April 2026, the following criteria apply:

  • Age: Must be between 18 and 80 years old.
  • Education: Must meet the specific requirements stated in the volunteer assignment description.
  • Professional Experience: Requirements vary by category:
    • UN Community Volunteer: No previous experience required.
    • UN Volunteer Associate: Minimum 1 month of relevant experience.
    • UN Volunteer Specialist: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
    • UN Volunteer Expert: Minimum 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Language: Proficiency in English, French, or Spanish is required depending on the assignment.
  • Skills: Preference is given to profiles in IT, Engineering, Logistics, Law, Medicine, Finance, and Humanitarian Affairs.

Required Documents

Applicants must create a comprehensive profile on the Unified Volunteering Platform. You will need to provide:

  • Education history
  • Detailed work experience
  • Language proficiency documentation
  • Volunteer experience records

Application Timeline

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year. There is no single deadline as assignments are posted periodically to the Unified Volunteering Platform.

How to Apply

  1. Visit the Unified Volunteering Platform.
  2. Create a free account and verify your email address.
  3. Complete your profile, detailing your education, skills, and experience.
  4. Register for the UNV Global Talent Pool.
  5. Search for open assignments and submit your application directly through the portal.

Pakistan-Specific Application Advice

Ensure your profile is completed in English, as this is the recommended language for the system. Since the UNV does not accept CVs via email, do not waste time sending applications to individual offices. Focus your efforts on optimizing your profile within the Global Talent Pool to match with relevant international assignments.

Important Terms and Limitations

  • Assignment location must be outside of your home country.
  • Previous volunteer experience is an asset but not a mandatory requirement for all roles.
  • Only applications submitted through the official UVP portal are considered.
