The Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme is now accepting applications for the 2027-28 academic session. This fully funded program, established by the Research Grants Council, supports 400 international students pursuing doctoral research at leading Hong Kong universities. If you are a high-achieving researcher from Pakistan, you are explicitly eligible to apply for this opportunity.
What the Funding Covers
Selected fellows receive comprehensive financial support for up to three years of their PhD studies. The award includes:
- An annual stipend of HK$344,400.
- An annual conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$14,400.
- Additional support for students who require more than three years to complete their degree.
Can Pakistani Students Apply?
Yes, the program is open to all nationalities. You do not need previous work experience, provided you are applying as a new full-time PhD candidate. You must demonstrate academic excellence, leadership abilities, and strong communication skills to be considered for the fellowship.
Who Is Eligible
This fellowship covers a wide array of research areas, including:
- Sciences and Medicine
- Engineering and Technology
- Humanities and Social Sciences
- Business Studies
You may apply to study at one of the eight participating institutions, such as The University of Hong Kong, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, or The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. You can select up to two programs at one or two different universities in your initial application.
How to Apply
The application process is divided into two distinct steps that you must complete by December 1, 2026.
- Submit an Initial Application: Complete your application through the official Electronic System to obtain your mandatory HKPFS reference number.
- Apply to the University: Once you receive your reference number, you must apply for full-time PhD admission directly at your chosen participating university.
